off though, so all that meant for me was that I didn't have to go in for a meeting.) Wesley and I spent the day hanging out together and it was so much fun! His Valentine's treat was a sippy cup of strawberry milk - yummy. I got to be the coolest mom in the world for awhile this morning too. I broke out the Gymboree bubbles and let loose in the kitchen. Wesley was running around saying "Bubbles! Bubbles!" and laughing up a storm. I think we had the whole room covered in bubbles! It was a perfect diversion for an inside day (even if I did have to mop the floor afterword)
Wesley gave me a great Valentine's Day gift too. We took a two hour nap together on the couch. I count this as a gift because for two whole hours I got to have my best little guy snuggled up against me. Wesley doesn't like to sit still for too long, so I know those moments are going to start coming less frequently. It was perfect for today though. I would have stayed there with him for hours more if I could have.
We ended our Valentine's Day by going out to dinner with Grandpa and Grandma H. There used to be a completely over the top Polynesian restaurant called the Kahiki. It closed several years ago, but some of the former employees have opened a smaller restaurant featuring many of the same dishes, tropical drinks and slightly more refined decor.
For two hours we escaped the ice and snow. We wore leis, drank tropical beverages, listened to a guitar player sing Hawaiian songs and ate yummy food. It was like a mini vacation. Wesley wasn't overly interested in sitting to eat. He wanted to look at the fish tanks and dance to the music and jabber away to the guitar player - that's why he looks so thrilled in the picture. No one cared though. Everyone in the restaurant was there to have romantic getaway, but it was just loud enough that Wesley's occasional whines didn't interfere with any one's evening. The highlight for us, was the desert we ordered. It was called the Big Fat Mamasan and was a gigantic concoction of fruit and ice cream. It arrived at the table flaming and then the waiter poured water on a tray of dry ice it was sitting in. Wesley loved the "fog" rolling over the table from our dessert almost as much as he loved the ice cream. It was a perfect evening.
What a wonderful lazy day it has been! Wesley and I have done a whole lot of nothing and I have loved every second of it. I even took two naps! Duane came home a little early too. Wesley and I went outside for all of two minutes as Duane shoveled the ice and snow, but what fun those two minutes were!

desperately want him to eat and can't leave well enough alone. Tonight we waited until he started whining, then stuck a forkful of mashed potatoes in his mouth. Once Wesley tasted them, he decided they were acceptable for at least a few forkfuls. We cheated though and sneaked bites of pork chop and broccoli in the potatoes. That worked for while. Then, when he started whining again, I popped a blueberry (previously frozen) into his mouth. That worked for awhile too. Wesley suddenly remembered that he likes blueberries and ate several. Good thing it's bath night! He also worked on a piece of bread and butter. It was a far cry from a meal, but at least I know he got some food in him.
Have I told you all lately how wonderful, incredible and all around terrific my husband is? Well sit back, because here comes another "Super Hubby" story. I woke up this morning a little after 8:00 and headed downstairs. I arrived in the kitchen to find Duane at the counter, cooking. "You ruined the surprise!" he said. "It's hard to bring you breakfast in bed when you are already up." So he sent me into the living room (where Wesley was) to read the paper and relax while he finished breakfast. A few minutes later he presented me with Raspberry Chocolate Chip Pancakes and a mug of hot tea. After I finished eating, he rubbed my back and shoulders too! I am so spoiled! The spoiling continued as he went to Panera for me this afternoon and kept Wesley busy while I did some creating in the kitchen. I just can't get over that this amazing guy is really my husband!

I think I'll have to get him some more Weebles play things!
I feel bad that I haven't posted any pictures of Wesley's cousins, Sho and Ki. We spent a little time with them at COSI yesterday. Here are a couple shots from the ever popular water table.

Our errands started this morning when we left the house for Wesley's hair appointment. As you can see from the picture, Wesley was in desperate need of a haircut. I didn't even try to make it look decent before we left the house. I just slapped a hat on his head and decided we'd call it a severe case of hat hair. Wesley is getting a lot better about having his hair cut. He still cries a little, but it's no longer a scream fest. Once the stylist pops a Dora DVD in, we're pretty much good. That's not to say, he likes getting his hair cut, just that he tolerates it a little better.
After the hair cut we went to JoAnn Etc. The door to the closet where the cats pans are was shut yesterday and one of the furry little darlings peed on Wesley's chair. It soaked into the foam, so we couldn't exactly wash it. We thought we'd try to save a little money and buy the foam, instead of a whole new chair. Yeah, there would be the headache of cutting it to size, but we figured it would be worth it. WRONG!!! It was less expensive to buy a whole new chair at Pottery Barn Kids.
check the card stores for a spare Stinky Bear. Because we were going to be doing a lot of shopping, I broke one of my cardinal rules and decided it would be alright if Wesley played in the kids area for awhile. That place was a zoo!!!! I think Wesley was overwhelmed by all the kids in the little space. We only stayed a few minutes and he didn't do much more than look at all the things to climb on.
heartbroken about all this time he has been forced to spend with Grandma. They took a trip to COSI today and never even made it to the kids area! Apparently, Wesley had such a good time toddling up and down the super long hallway that there was no need to travel to the second floor.

Don't worry, it's not Wesley's diaper - it's his teddy bear (AKA Stinky Bear.) Duane and I managed to avoid the whole pacifier thing; Wesley never would take one. We don't have to have blankie with us at every moment; it's helpful but not needed. But look out if we don't have his teddy bear!
Wesley has always been a "tag" kid. He loves to chew on the tags of animals, clothes, towel, whatever. It used to be that one tag was as good as another, but no more. Now it has to be the tag on his Stinky Bear. I couldn't find SB on Sunday when it was time to go to church. We tried subsituting a different stuffed toy, but Wesley pitched a fit! I ended up tearing apart his room to find SB so we could go.
Why do we call Wesley's favorite comfort object "Stinky Bear?" Well, Wesley sucks on the tag pretty much from the time he gets up to the time he goes to bed. SB can't be in the crib because Wesley gags himself on the tag in his sleep. Frank is the bedtime buddy. Anyhow, the teddy bear ends up with drool, food, dirt, snot and who knows what else on it, leaving a nice smelly, crust around the tag. We wash bear a couple times a week, but he really needs washed a couple times a day. Trust me, SB has a very distinct odor.
Lately I've had this panic that SB will fall apart in the wash. He's in great shape still, but I'm so tempted to go buy several of them - just in case! Is that a bad thing?

I owe my wonderful hubby lots for allowing me to have a total "me" day! While he stayed home with the boy, I went with my mom, and Susan to a fund-raiser called "ChickLit and Chocolate." You know you are in for a good afternoon when you walk in the very first thing people want to do is give you brownies, a chair massage and sign you up for a drawing for a cruise! We drank chocolate martinis, ate chocolate fondue, hot chocolate, chocolate chip cookies, baked brie and rumaki. We shopped at a couple artists booths, we listened to Clare Cook (author of Must Love Dogs) talk, and listed to the author of "Eat Chocolate, Lose Weight." We bought books, got autographs, laughed and ate more chocolate. It was WONDERFUL!!!!
Our first stop was the fish tank. Wesley had a great time looking at all the fish. He even tried to kiss them. Um...YUCK!!!!

day. Wesley has been playing with everything on and off, but right now he is focusing his attention on TMX Elmo. Wesley still isn't real sure about the laughing, but he's currently dragging it around by it's arm and trying to make Elmo sit in his truck. Looks like Wesley and Elmo are going to be buddies one way or another.
rd time Christmas morning begins for families with young children. I popped the traditional Christmas casserole in the oven and we staggered into the living room to find goodies from Santa pouring out of our stockings. Wesley perked up considerably when he discovered his dog ornament that barks "Jingle Bells." The maracas were also a big hit. I was so glad to see him smiling and not looking miserable for a few minutes! Other hits included a car sent by his cousins in Seattle and the dark chocolate candy bars that Santa left for Daddy. At least we know the kid has good taste!
Wesley fell asleep in the car on the way to Grandma and Grandpa P.'s. We managed to get him into his pack and play for a nap and I soothed my bruised ego with a couple glasses of Lambrusco and the delicious nibbles Grandma had prepared. By the time Wesley woke up I was feeling a little less sorry for myself, even if he did still want Daddy and only Daddy. Wesley nibbled some cheese and "cracks" and fudge until it was time to open gifts.
boy around. Not only does he have tons of family in town that love him, but apparently they see it as their personal mission in life to spoil him. Wesley might have held onto his little Dora the Explorer figurines all evening, but I was stunned by two of his presents. Grandpa has been on a mission to get Wesley a TMX Elmo since about September. He has had people in other cities looking for them. He and Grandma went to separate stores at 5:00 AM the day after Thanksgiving looking for one. He even had Wesley's 16 year old cousin Aaron on the lookout. Well, all that perseverance (and some time on e-bay) paid off and Wesley now has a TMX Elmo. I think he's a little apprehensive of it when it's laughing, but when it was standing still, Wesley hugged it and gave it a kiss.
beautiful rocking horse. I mean, it is gorgeous!! I know my jaw hit the floor when the cover was pulled off it. I know Wesley doesn't understand yet, but it's something that his children and grandchildren will love too. My eyes tear up just thinking about all the work and love that toy represents. I pray Wesley will always know how much he means to his Grandpa. Wesley didn't want to sit on the horse, but he petted it a few times and said "Nice" so I think he likes it!
